What is Paper 1 and Paper 2 in JEE Mains?

JEE Paper 1 & Paper 2 are 2 different exams targeting different skill sets and have different syllabus, question types, marking scheme and duration.

Paper 1 is conducted for engineering aspirants (B.Tech & B.E). Paper 1 is in an online, 3 hour format and is marked out 300 marks. There are a total of 90 questions split equally between the 3 topics, Physics, Chemistry & Maths. Each correct answer will award 4 marks and 1 mark will be cut for each wrong answer.

Paper 2 is conducted for Architecture (B.Arch) and Planning (B.Plan) aspirants. In paper 2, maths & general aptitude is in an online format and drawing is paper/pen based format. General aptitude has 50 questions, Maths has 25 questions and drawing has 2 questions leading to 77 questions in total and 400 marks. Each correct answer will reward 4 marks and 1 mark will be cut for each wrong answer, drawing questions will be marked on 50 marks per question.

Who is eligible to write the JEE Main 2025 Exam?

NTA has published the JEE Main 2025 Eligibility Criteria on their official website. Only candidates who meet the criteria are allowed to apply.

There is no fixed age limit to write the JEE Mains 2025 Exam, however the candidate must have completed or be completing class 12 in the exam year or 2 years prior to the exam year.

There is no minimum mark requirements to write JEE Mains however students are recommended to take Mathematics as a subject in 10+2

How to apply to JEE Main 2025: Application Form

JEE Mains Cycle 1 applications were opened on October 28th 2024, and the last date to apply was November 22nd 2024. Cycle 2 will be open from January 31st 2025 through the official NTA website.

Jee Main Paper 2 Exam Syllabus & Pattern 2025

The JEE Mains Paper 2 is held for 2 courses (B.Arch & B.Plan).

B.Plan is a Computer Based Test (CBT) and comprises 3 topics. 

Part 1 – Mathematics: 25 Multiple choice questions (MCQ) & questions for which the answer is a numerical value totalling 100 marks.

Part 2 – Aptitude test: 50 Multiple choice questions (MCQ) totaling 200 Marks.

Part 3 – Planning: 25 Multiple choice questions (MCQ) totalling 100 marks.

Each correct answer awards 4 marks and an incorrect answer minus 1 mark. The total marks for this paper is 400.

B.Arch is a Computer Based Test (CBT) and Pen & Paper based drawing component. The exam is structured in 3 parts.

Part 1 – Mathematics: 25 Multiple choice questions (MCQ) & questions for which the answer is a numerical value totalling 100 marks.
